Because I prepare taxes, I think it’s a good practice to continually sharpen your skills. One way I do this is by being a member of some great professional organizations, such as the National Association of Enrolled Agents and the National Association of Tax Professionals. These two organizations send out periodicals which, to be honest, used to sit on my desk and collect dust. I figured I would actually commit to reading the journals by taking the time to read one article a day. So, in the morning, I pull out the journal, read one article highlight, and take notes in a notebook.
Not only does it help reinforce my tax knowledge, but it also gives me ideas about further areas in tax I may want to take classes on, or videos to create, that would help my client base. The next time you say you don’t have time to learn something new for your business, just remember 15 minutes in the morning is enough time to read at least one article.
