QuickBooks Live Bookkeeping update

QuickBooks Live Bookkeeping update

Editor’s note: This article was updated March 15, 2019.

QuickBooks® Live Bookkeeping (QuickBooks Live) is a monthly bookkeeping subscription service for small businesses, which is provided by ProAdvisors® and bookkeepers. Although it’s not available yet, QuickBooks Live is geared toward serving small businesses who aren’t currently connected to a ProAdvisor or bookkeeper. While many small businesses using QuickBooks Online are connected to ProAdvisors through our Find-a-ProAdvisor platform, our research shows that 40 percent of small businesses don’t work with a ProAdvisor or accounting professional. That said, 89 percent of small businesses say they’re more successful when working with an accounting professional. QuickBooks Live aims to bridge that gap, providing small businesses with the accounting professionals they need to thrive.

For ProAdvisors and bookkeepers, QuickBooks Live provides a new opportunity to earn extra money, plus offers the flexibility of remote work and setting their own hours—all while elevating the value of human-powered financial management. This is the next step in our continued effort to help partner small businesses and the self-employed with ProAdvisors and bookkeepers.

We’ll conduct many tests over the next several months focusing on tailoring the QuickBooks Live service for both small businesses and our qualified bookkeepers and ProAdvisors.

February 2019

On QuickBooks.com, we conducted a two-week test of potential merchandising and pricing for our subscription service. This allowed small businesses to submit their name and contact info, indicating their interest in QuickBooks Live. We learned there’s a high interest among small businesses, and we followed up with them to learn more about their expectations.

Additionally, we hired 10 accounting professionals in our Boise office to begin a sample service test with small businesses using QuickBooks Online. These 10 accounting professionals are ProAdvisors certified in QuickBooks Online. While they work in our office for now, that’s not how we’ll deliver this service in the future. Our vision for QuickBooks Live is that ProAdvisors and bookkeepers will work remotely with Intuit® and set their own hours to provide this service. Having ProAdvisors in-house at this early stage allows us to quickly observe and learn about their interaction with businesses, which helps us scale our service and provide the best offerings possible for everyone involved.

March 2019

With 10 Boise-based ProAdvisors now on-boarded and providing QuickBooks Live Bookkeeping, our next phase of testing is just getting started. Several small businesses indicated interest in the service during February’s QuickBooks.com test. These businesses are engaging with ProAdvisors over the next several months so that we can learn how the businesses use the service, the questions they ask, and where they need bookkeeping help.

What’s Next

A new test on QuickBooks.com will launch the week of March 25. This test will present a variety of pricing structures and models, as well as merchandising and messaging so we can better understand what drives small business engagement and consideration of the service. During these tests, small businesses won’t be able to purchase the service or connect with one of the accounting professionals working in the Boise-based testing environment. Small businesses will only be able to indicate their interest in the service.

Over the next month, the ProAdvisors in the Boise office will continue working with small businesses through QuickBooks Live. We also plan to hire additional accounting professionals – both virtually and in our Reno office. The Reno-based accounting professionals will contribute to an onboarding test for QuickBooks Payroll, as we anticipate a number of payroll questions from those participating in the QuickBooks Live Bookkeeping test.

In the meantime, here are some FAQs we’ll continue updating as we learn from tests over the next several months.
