QuickBooks Online new features and improvements – June 2019

June is a month for transformation—school’s out, gardens are blooming, and your garage is finally getting that post-winter decluttering (No? Hey, July’s also a month for transformation).

Our latest QuickBooks® Online updates are here to keep your practice transforming and improving, too. This month brings new features to simplify your workflow and de-stress your tax services.

New! Receipt Capture simplifies tax season, and saves clients time all year

In a nutshell: Nothing says “tax time” like a shoebox overflowing with your clients’ crumpled receipts. That’s something we’re determined to change—starting with new Receipt Capture in QuickBooks Online.

Your clients can now snap and store receipts digitally to save hours of labor throughout the year. Receipts are automatically categorized and matched to transactions, so everything’s organized and ready at tax time.

How it works: Your clients snap receipt photos on their phone, then add them to QuickBooks Online in one of three ways:

  1. Scanning directly through the mobile app.
  2. Uploading, then dragging and dropping.
  3. Forwarding by email.

Email forwarding can be set up by selecting the Register your email button in the Banking tab.

No matter how your clients choose to add them, all receipts will post to one consolidated Receipts dashboard in the Banking tab.

Once receipts are added, they’re automatically categorized and matched to existing transactions.

If no match is found, you can use the receipt information to create a new transaction.

You and your clients can edit details, manage user permissions, and delete receipts any time—adding up to taxes that are more reliable for your clients, and more relaxing for you.

In a nutshell: It’s simple math: When supporting a small business, one step is always greater than two. Our updated contractor-payment process is built to consolidate workflow, letting you and your clients pay contractors and choose details you want to track—all in a single step.

How it works: Contractors are paid the same way as before.

When entering the payment details, you and your clients will now see drop-downs where you can select trackable details—such as class, project, and location.

Hit Pay, and presto.

Tracking will be enabled right from the outset, so you don’t have to dig through expenses later to get the clarity you need.

New! Interested in becoming a QuickBooks Live Bookkeeper?

In a nutshell: Over the past six months, we have been testing a new monthly bookkeeping service called QuickBooks Live Bookkeeping. This service is intended to fill the gaps for small businesses and self-employed who are not currently connected to ProAdvisors® and accounting professionals (via QuickBooks Online Accountant). Many small businesses who use QuickBooks Online are connected to ProAdvisors through our Find-a-ProAdvisor platform, but our research shows that 40 percent of small businesses don’t currently work with ProAdvisors or bookkeepers. QuickBooks Live is the next step in Intuit’s continued effort to ensure every small business has the support they need to succeed.

How it works: Since the number one question we’ve received from accounting professionals about QuickBooks Live is “How can I participate as a bookkeeper?,” we have created an easy way for you to provide your information here. Over the next few months, we will be adding more bookkeepers based on customer demand.

In addition to being QuickBooks Online Certified, some of the other requires are:

One of the following:

  • an active CPA credential (Certified Public Accountant) OR
  • an active CPB credential (Certified Public Bookkeeper) OR
  • 3+ years of recent experience managing the books for a Small Business Clients
  • received a 4-year business degree in Accounting/Finance

AND

  • a minimum of one-year’s experience working with QuickBooks Online
