QuickBooks Online new features and improvements – September 2019
Even though the air is a bit crisper and the days are a bit shorter, September is a great time to work with your clients to help get their books in shape and improve their workflow. This begins with understanding the latest new features and improvements in QuickBooks® Online.
What’s new in September
In a nutshell: Mileage tracking, previously only available for QuickBooks Self-Employed, will soon be available to all versions of QuickBooks Online. We’re rolling it out incrementally, so you might not see the feature right away, but all users should have access in the next several months.
When it comes to tax deductions for mileage expenses, most small businesses and self-employed professionals end up leaving money on the table. It’s so easy to forget to log a trip, lose track of information from third-party trackers, or skip the hassle of manually logging your miles.
How it works: Just download the QuickBooks Online app, enable mileage tracking, and drive. It’s that easy. When you hop in your vehicle, your phone automatically senses that you’re driving and uses GPS tracking to measure the distance. When you arrive, QuickBooks prompts you to categorize the mileage with a simple swipe. All of your trips are stored in one convenient location within the app, and you can see detailed mileage reporting and potential tax savings estimates at any time.
- Create custom travel rules to tell QuickBooks that a trip from the office.
- Estimate the potential deduction for an entire year, or for one individual trip.
In a nutshell: We’ve made a number of small-but-meaningful improvements to your QuickBooks Online reports experience. We’ve upgraded the performance and navigation to produce fewer errors, faster reviews, and less frustration.
Here’s a quick overview of some of the improvements:
- Optimized loading times and reduced error count for large batches of data.
- View all your transaction data immediately, rather than having to click “load more.”
- Closing the view/edit screen no longer returns you to the beginning of a report.
In a nutshell: You can now send customer invoices in one of six languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), and Chinese (Traditional).
How it works: From the Customer information pop-up in QuickBooks Online, select the new Language tab and select a default language for that user. From now on, they’ll receive the default invoice information in that language.
In a nutshell: When you get a new message from a potential client from Find-a-ProAdvisor, you can now reply to the message directly from QuickBooks Online Accountant.
It’s easy to lose leads in your inbox or spam folder, or forget about a message until that hot lead runs cold. So, instead of the old hassle of jumping over to your email client and hunting for the inquiry, you can now respond directly from inside QuickBooks Online Accountant.
Through initial testing phases, users of this feature saw a 15 percent bump in replies, and when it comes to lead response rates where 50 percent of messages don’t get a follow up at all, 15 percent is HUGE.
For now, QuickBooks only supports initial follow-up messages. For longer conversations, you’ll need to use email. However, you’ll still get a copy of the lead sent to your email inbox as usual, so you’ll know just where to find it when you need it.
In a nutshell: When you directly sign a client up for QuickBooks Online Advanced, they get 50 percent off for six months (offer available in U.S. only).
QuickBooks Online Advanced serves the needs of fast-growing, complex businesses. It helps clients by speeding up invoicing, providing enhanced custom fields and reporting, and offering customizable fields for more flexible bookkeeping. Plus, now you can provide your client with a direct discount and they can save big.
That’s all for now, until next time. And, as always, keep your feet on the ground and your books in the cloud.
