Q: Do my clients and I have to transition to QuickBooks Online Payroll?
Through May 2022, rest assured you can continue to run payroll and 1099s for yourself and your clients on Intuit Online Payroll as you do today. For those who want to transition sooner, we have you covered. As soon as you’re eligible (November 2021 at the earliest), we’ll send you an invitation to voluntarily transition early. If you haven’t transitioned to QuickBooks Online Payroll by June 2022, we will make the transition for you and your clients, with no disruption to your or your clients’ business.
Q: How will the transition work?
Once you’re eligible, you can log into your Intuit Online Payroll account and choose when you want to transition. You’ll be able to select the new plan for your clients (Core, Premium, or Elite). Once you decide to transition, we’ll take care of the rest and let you know when the process is finished. Once completed, you’ll have access to all of your clients’ data, including reports, notes, and alerts in QuickBooks Online Payroll.
Once the transition is finished, we’ll provide instructions to log into QuickBooks Online Accountant. If you previously had a QuickBooks Online Accountant account, you’ll see two companies. Some Accountants may wish to keep their clients who were previously on Intuit Payroll separate from their other clients for ease of management. We are working toward a solution for those who would like to consolidate clients into a single account, and will notify you when this is made available.
Q: Will I have to re-enter payroll data into QuickBooks Online Payroll?
No. You will not have to re-enter data for your firm or clients. The process of transitioning from Intuit Online Payroll to QuickBooks Online Payroll is fast, seamless, and automated, with no work required by you or your clients. Once you choose to transition, the interface you use will change from Intuit Online Payroll or Intuit Full Service Payroll to QuickBooks Online Payroll, but all your payroll data stays safely where it is, including reports, notes, and alerts. That means no interruption to your or your clients’ business. The only difference is that you’ll be running payroll from QuickBooks Online Payroll.
Q: Do I need to get new Power of Attorney forms signed if I transition my firm and clients from Intuit Online Payroll to QuickBooks Payroll?
When you transition, you are staying with Intuit, so you do not need to obtain or change the Power of Attorney on file or Third Party Administrator access when transitioning to QuickBooks Payroll.

QuickBooks Online Payroll is a modern experience with more features, more automation, more time savings, and better ongoing development support.

Q: Are my clients getting QuickBooks accounting software or just payroll?
They’re just getting QuickBooks’ stand-alone payroll service. They don’t need QuickBooks Online to run payroll from stand-alone QuickBooks Online Payroll. Q: What’s the timeline for the transition?
To allow you to have increased flexibility and control, we plan to start inviting accountants to voluntarily transition their clients to QuickBooks Online Payroll. This voluntary transition period will begin in November 2021 at the earliest and continue through May of 2022. If you have not transitioned to QuickBooks Online Payroll by June 2022, we will make the transition for you and your clients, with no disruption to your or your clients’ business.
Q: How will I know when to transition?
We’ll send you an email once you are eligible. Then, you’ll see a new Transition tab in your Intuit Online Payroll Accountant product with instructions that will guide you through the process.
Q: Do I get to choose the transition date?
Yes, you can choose to move any time starting in November 2021 at the earliest up until May of 2022. We’ll send you an invitation once you’re eligible to move. If you haven’t transitioned by June 2022, we’ll transition you and your clients for you.
